Figure 6: Overviews of cross-sections of rabbit penises. In Group 1, part of the tubularized buccal mucosa graft survived in the neourethra at 1 month. At 3 months, there was no evidence of buccal mucosa lining in the neourethra, and the urethral lumen became worse and was composed of only urothelium cells. In Group 2, a discontinued epidermal layer developed on the lumen surface of the neourethra at 1 month, and the cellular layer continued to increase over time. At 3 months, the constructed neourethra narrowed even though the lumen surface formed intact and multilayer urothelium. In Group 3, the neourethra lumen was lined with typical squamous epithelial layers, and the constructed neourethra kept a wide urethral caliber for 3 months. Scale bars on the gross images and in the expanded area were 1.0 mm and 200 μm, respectively.
